Hi, my camera is taking pictures but the screen won’t show me the picture, it comes out black… I know this is an old camera but everything else works and it hasn’t been used much. Is there any way I can fix this? I’ve changed the lens, got a new battery and SD card. All from canon.

That camera is the original EOS Digital Rebel which was released in 2003 and it was the only Rebel series camera to be released in silver. Error 99 is an unknown electrical fault with the camera. When that error pops its usually shutter failure or circuit board failure. You should be able to press the play button to show pictures. Fungus in the lens doesn't affect the electrical communication. It does however degrade the lens by eating away at the lens coatings. Your camera isn't it worth it to repair nor does Canon repair that camera anymore. Maybe a 3rd Party shop can repair it. But it will likely exceed the value of the camera. Also that camera doesn't use regular SD Cards it uses the more expensive CF Cards usually found in high end cameras.

Which Digital Rebel do you have. Canon has released multiple cameras with that name. What kind of SD Card are you using Full Sized or a Micro SD Card with an adapter. Avoid using Micro SD Cards in an adapter. What capacity sized SD Cards are you using. A lot of older cameras cannot use SD Cards bigger than 32GB. Also where did you buy these SD Cards? Avoid using Amazon because a lot of counterfeit SD Cards are sold there.
This picture was found right here in the forums. Warning other people NOT to use cheap SD Cards.

The camera I have is the DC 8.1V To be quite honest this camera was bought by my dad as a gift to my mom… she never used it and was bought in 2008, he said everything was bought at Best Buy so I would assume everything is authentic. The camera is taking pictures it’s just the screen won’t show them, the screen comes on and I’m able to look at the menu etc it just won’t show the picture, it also keeps saying “Err 99” (??) and “busy” my dad says there might be fungus in the lens 🤷🏽♀️

Oh okay thank you so much! I guess I’ll just have to buy a brand new camera. ;(

Do you have a budget if so how much is it. Canon has discontinued DSLR cameras and EF/ EF-S lenses. Canon like all other camera manufacturers have moved to mirrorless cameras. Canon calls their current mirrorless lineup the EOS R Series. Canon formerly had the EOS M which is also a mirrorless camera lineup. But that camera lineup has been discontinued. These new cameras use a new lens Mount called the RF Mount. These new lenses cannot be used on older SLR or DSLR cameras. However EF/ EF-S can be adapted to the new RF Mount with an appropriate Mount adapter.

Ahhh okay noted, my budget is actually low because I don’t live in America so the currency is not the same. If I were to buy a camera for let’s say $800USD in my currency that would be around $2,162ECD. So my budget would be $200USD. Im looking for a small digital camera to travel around with.

It's always an unwanted expense when we have to replace a camera that is malfunctioning or dead. A new R100 with 18-45mm and 55-210mm zooms can be had for $800 which is an astoundingly good deal for a basic camera and two lenses. I bought an R100 as a back-up body and have come to really like it.
The camera world has advanced so far from the time period of your Rebel that even a low-end camera like an R100 is a significant improvement.
Depending on budget, Canon has an array of cameras "stair-stepped" in price and features.
I also shoot regularly with a full-frame R8 and have found that to be a very capable machine.
The photography I do does not require cameras with tons of bells and whistles and I've always been of the mindset to buy relatively low-end cameras and splurge more on excellent lenses. Then when Canon updates with new models--and they are good at doing so--I can think of upgrading because I did not spend a lot on my current bodies.
Do your research and then do not hesitate to bounce ideas off the folks here.
You'll get a new camera and you'll be pleased with your decision.
