Canon M50 Display control auto not working

Whenever I try and set my display control to auto, it gets stuck on the viewfinder and even if there is nothing infront of the ir detector.

Ensure that the eye cup is fully in place. If it's covering the sensor the camera will act that way.

Is the sensor dirty?

Nope, i just cleaned it and I am still experiencing the same issue.

Remove and reinstall the eye cup. To see if the problem goes away.

I don't think the eyecup is removable.
