EOS Rebel T7 says every SD card is locked

This is a new camera I had for 6 months and never used. I had it setup to use the cable direct to computer.  Never used an SD card in it. Now I have given it to my son, and it will not take an SD Card. It says they are all locked and not they are not, verified and reverified it. Plugged the card in/out a ton to clean the contacts. Still will not work.

Hello,
Check the SD Card Lock Switch
Every SD card has a small sliding switch on the side. Ensure it is in the "unlocked" position.
If the switch appears loose or damaged, try using a different SD card to confirm the issue isn’t with the card itself.
2. Inspect the SD Card Slot
Dust or Debris: Even if you’ve plugged the card in/out multiple times, there might still be dust or dirt. Use a can of compressed air to gently clean the SD card slot.
Lock Detection Sensor: Inside the SD card slot, there’s a tiny sensor that detects whether the SD card is locked. If this sensor is misaligned or damaged, the camera may misinterpret all cards as locked.
3. Try Another SD Card
Test with a brand-new SD card or one from a different manufacturer. Ensure it matches the camera's supported specifications (e.g., SDHC, SDXC, or the maximum capacity allowed).
4. Format the SD Card on a Computer
Insert the SD card into a computer using a card reader.
Format it to the FAT32 or exFAT file system, depending on what your camera supports.
After formatting, insert it into the camera and check if it works.
5. Update the Camera Firmware
Some cameras may have firmware bugs that interfere with SD card detection. Visit the camera manufacturer’s website to check for firmware updates. Follow their instructions to install the latest version.

Best Regards

First DO NOT try to update the FW. Never and I mean never try a FW update when the camera is not working properly. It's a very bad idea and suggestion. You can brick the camera and Canon is the only place that can repair it if that happens.

Now to thy and sort this out. You are using a top brand full size SD? No micro SD with adapter. One you bought from a known good retailer? Amazon is not a good choice. B&H Photo, Adorama, Robert's, etc., or locally a Best Buy, Cosco or photo store. Check the manual to make sure you are using the correct SD type and size.

If those steps don't work and you just bought the camera six months ago call Canon 1 (800) 652-2666 Explain exactly what is going on, it is still under warranty.

Best Buy brand new 128Gb sandisk ultra, Blew out the sd card slot on the camera. When the card was first put in it saved two pictures to it, then started throwing the card lock message immediately. The card is not lock, tried another same message and was not locked. Cleared all camera setting via the menu. Firmware is up to date, the camera reads the cards fine. So does my computer.
