Best newer SD cards for Canon T3....

AUricle

I'm using my T3 with a software program for getting the most exposures in and around totality of the coming solar eclipse.

I have a good exposure sequence, but just realized I may be able to get more out of my system if I had a faster newer SD card.

The card I'm using is a SanDisk 16GB card with a 15mb speed rating...Class 4 card.

The other day I purchased a new card "Extreme Plus" same size but with a 45mb speed rating, and a Class 10. It was supposed to be compatible from all I read, but........

I was unbale to get the camera to 'see' the card so formatting was impossible.

Even after formatting on my PC, the camera still said "no card in camera".

So was it just a bad card? Has anyone with a T3 been able to move up to the newer faster cards and if so can you give me a few suggestions? I don't want to have to keep returning cards that are useless.

Thanks for any help.......

John,

Thanks for the snappy reply.

I was in fact LOOKING for the SDXC card.....but they didn't have one (it was just Walgreen's drugstore)

So I got the SDHC....think it was SanDisk Extreme Plus U1 Class 10 card........

I was really surprised it wouldn't work.

I'm going to check SanDisk website, because I thought XC's were compatible...

In the meantime, I'm still all ears...

Is the new card an SDXC card?  If so, your camera cannot read that card. You want SDHC. If you get a Class 10 SDHC card you will be sure that it has more cappability than the camera.

I stand corrected SDXC will work

In any event, try a low level format with you SDHC card.

You may not be wrong, John.

Depending on which site you read from, people say 'yes' for SDXC....or 'no'

Sandisk's site says 'yes' for the XC's but here is the card I believe I bought.....

The other possibility is that it was NOT a "Plus" 80/MB/s....just Extreme at 45MB/s

I of course took it back because I couldn't format in camera or outside of camera.

I didn't think there was any option besides "low level format" in camera...???

My other question would be, what is the maximum speed the camera can flush data to the card. I'd think if your card exceeds the T3's flush rate, the extra card "speed" is useless.....am I wrong?
