Which kit lens do you have (EF-S 18-55mm or EF-S 18-135mm)?

Welcome Anna.

I am guessing you meant the 18-135 lens? It is a good all-around lens.

I would suggest the 55-250 IS STM zoom lens for wildlife. If yiour budget allows consider adding the 10-18mm lens for wide angle scenics.

I got lucky and got a used lens for $90. Not haven't looked at the current model or price. Specs: EF 28-135mm, 1:3.5-5.6 IS. I did a photo shoot for a couple of events and found it to be most useful. There are a number of options for viewing landscape and wildlife. Toothy critters would require a good telephoto lens. Others more experienced will chime in here with other suggestions. You realize you have committed to photo of the trip. There are some Alaska photos already posted on the section of sharing photos. Good luck and have a great trip.

This cruise is a signiicant investment, and you don't want to miss out on images you will cherish for a lifetime.

Can I suggest exploring  a more expensive lens to complement your 18-135, like the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary. It will be brilliant for wildlife, such as whales, or distant images of landscape. If you can't afford to buy, consider renting.
