Hello
Thought you guys might like to see an example of the 100-400 mk2 in a test setting here you can see my sigma teleconverter just check out the depth of field at 100mm at F4.5 . To explain the setting this is the fire place ledge about an inch behind the converter is decrotive wall paper the depth of field is so extream you can not see the wall behind it. This is on a 600d so its really 160mm.

The camera only matters for the size of the sensor. What lens is this? I assumed the 100-400 F/4.5-5.6 II, which has a 3 ft minimum focus distance.

I assumed the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Lens, which has a MFD of 5.9 feet.
I changed the distance to 3 feet. That's pretty tight. His original shot looks a little grainy and soft to me. He should take a longer exposure at ISO-100 from a tripod.
[EDIT] At 25 feet, the DOF is 3.22 feet.
