S/N by Production Year, 1950s - 1960s Vintage lens

Leica
Apprentice

I purchased a Canon 50mm f/1.8 F 1.8 Leica Screw Mount LTM L39 to go onto my old Leica.

[Removed Serial Number to protect personal information].

I searched the Canon Museum and every other source I could find and cannot find the year produced.

Maybe someone has a book or other source to help me out.

Used one a few years ago and love the old vintage looking B&W photos.

Old camera, old lens, old photographer!

If it doesn't have a separate date code it was made before 1960.

Canon started adding date codes to lenses in 1960.

Thanks. I also have a book ... Peter Kitchingman -"Canon M39 Lenses 1939-1971" ... being searched for by the college where I teach as an Interlibrary Loan.  I'll update folks if/when that book is found and I look up the S/N.

It's of interest only; I have and love the lens no matter when.

I kow it's not a real early one because it is black and white; the Version 1 were all chrome.

"I have and love the lens no matter when"

That is all that matters.  Smiley Happy
