Just bought my first mirrorless camera with two lens as a kit. The 18-45 lens when attached AND when not attached is frozen and will not rotate to focus on subject. The small ring does rotate. The camera is telling me in the screen to "set the lens in the shooting position". It only goes on one way and I don't understand the problem.....The other lens, 55- 210, does rotate. I have no idea what to do and want to learn how to use this camera. I have had cameras in the past and the various lenses never did this. Please help.

Hello everyone, I called Canon and was going to send the lens back but as I put on the back cover, the lens moved freely. It now moves freely both on and off the camera. I will keep an eye on it and hopefully this has resolved itself. Thank you all for your help.

That’s very odd for both lenses to exhibit the same faulty behavior. The zoom control rings are mechanically connected to the lens internals.
The focus control rings on STM lenses are not mechanically connected to the internal lens elements.
I suggest that you contact the vendor or Canon service.

Im sorry, it's only the 18 - 45 lens that is frozen....The larger lens, 55 - 210 is fine. But yes, I will need to call.... as it sounds like this is something very unusual going on.....thank you, to all of you who responded to my question.

That was indeed odd.Mine can be zoomed off camera.
Definitely call Canon if it happens again, there may be a fault

As silly as this seems, I do think it was my own fault in not twising the lens hard enough as I was used to a different brand that twists with a softer hand, not that Canon lens is hard to use. I was just so excited, plus an unexpected death in the family, made me a little off....But, I will keep an eye on the lens just to make sure it really is ok. Thank you all for your time in my panic mode....
