Does anyone know if the manual override of AF on this not-yet-released lens will require depressing shutter halfway?

Are you refering to the process required for STM lenses?

It shouldn't since its a USM lens.

Thank you for educating me on the difference between USM and STM in that regard! I have 2 STM lenses and find that having to coordinate pressing the shutter with overriding the AF to be inconvenient, so was hoping that the new 70-300 would not have that requirement. Eager to receive the lens once it's released.
