Did you mean:

Is the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens comparable with the Canon 450D?

I read in a comment that the 450D has no microAF and that this lens was front focusing.

I’m not exactly sure what this means - but does this make this lens unusable/difficult with the 450D?

Pay no attention to what you read, any ef 50mm f1.8 model will work just fine for you. That said 50mm on a Rebel is a tough FL to live with unless you have a specific use for it. It always seems to be either too long to too short for the shot.

Your EOS 450D (also known as Digital Rebel XSi) can use ANY AND EVERY Canon EF and EF-S  mount lens ever made.

What you read are two tiny tidbits of info that you should disregard.

The 50mm focal length is of questionable value. On your crop-sensor (APS-C) camera body it gives an effective 80 mm lens field of view, which is short telephoto.  While 50 mm is considered a "normal" focal length on a full-frame body, it is not, on your 450D. Whatever focal length the lens is, multiply that by 1.6 to tell you the full-frame equivalent.

A 28 or 35 mm lens would give you a "normal" field of view.
