EOS Rebel T6i and Quantaray lens: Er 1 lens error message

Beccareid

I have an EOS Rebel T6i and haven’t ever had any problems with it. I just bought a new lens for it and on some settings it works fine (portrait and sports) but in all the other settings it gives me an Er 1 message, saying there’s a problem with the lens connection. It doesn’t do this with my other lenses so I’m assuming it’s a lens problem but I’m hoping I can get some advice to fix it. Detaching and cleaning has not fixed it. Neither did resetting camera settings. It’s a quantaray lens. Any help is appreciated!

If its a Quantaray lens that's most likely the problem. They don't work properly with new cameras and I don't believe they're made anymore. Have you tried a Canon lens to see if it works properly. Its up to the 3rd Party for Compatibility NOT Canon. What's the FULL NAME of the lens in question.

Quantaray lenses are made for the Ritz camera store chain as a store brand. Most of them are made by Sigma but some may have been made by Tamron. There is no reason why one will not or should not work on a Rebel T6. Yes, of course, some shortcuts are taken in their manufacture but they still should work, OK.

"Detaching and cleaning has not fixed it."

As you have found out that rarely to never is that the problem. Plus you run the risk of doing permanent damage to the contacts if done incorrectly. Mounting and removing the lens is generally all that is need to keep the gold plated contacts in fine nick.

Now your problem. All lenses can and will eventually fail and a Quantaray lens is probably not known to be a long distance runner since they are not made to the highest of standards. I would return it if possible.
