Trevor,

Having photographed both I can tell you that photographing rugby can be much more challenging then football. Football has a specific cadence, structure and even for a novice is somewhat predictable because it is built around the line of scrimmage. While rugby has some structure it is in my opinion is a bit more ruckus and less predicable until someone passes the goal line.

And for what it is worth I think those image are a very nice representation of the game and nicely done.

All,

Take note this user has given a budget of $100-$250 for his sport photography lens endeavor.

@bayerb, I believe you will need to increase your budget to achieve your goals.

Thanks for connecting those dots together Rick.  I must admit I missed that.

@bayerb, it is important to post in each thread you start any criteria that may impact your needs and constraints - in this case, it would have been better and more helpful to you and us to combine the two inquiries.

That said, I will concur that  the budget is so limiting as to be virtually impossible to fulfil - especially when taking the two genres into account that may require different solutions.

This is true but sometimes a reasonable recommendation can't be made if an unreasonable limit is placed on it. Unfortunately photography is not a cheap hobby. But in reality most hobbies are not 'cheap' either.
