Hello! So I have the 15-45mm lens and would like to buy lens to get into photography for example: Family portraits, newborn photography.
Im not sure what Lens would be good for such things I love to take pictures of my children and am good with editing but I feel like I need a lens that will potentially do better than the one I have! Any suggestions please :)!

The EOS M system has been discontinued by Canon. Native lens selection is very slim if not completely discounted. Your best bet is adapting EF or EF-S lenses. Using adapted EF or EF-S lenses will cause faster battery drain with the EOS M series cameras. Your current lens does most of what you need. Unless you're finding noisy pictures a faster lens maybe needed.

what camera do you recommend for beginning photography I did search up some adapters that can work with the lens. I see that the EF50 mm lens works ok for photography but I believe I need to buy the adapter

Which EF 50mm lens Canon has released multiple versions and apertures over the years. Do you have a budget for a new camera if so how much. For new cameras look into the EOS R series. Your current EF-M lenses CAN NOT be adapted to these cameras at all.

Hi Kaila:
I hope you and Demetrius will not mind me responding!
If you are considering a different camera, which is not silly, then budget is a critical element that we need to know. Right now, I would recommend anyone going for a new camera to move to the new Mirrorless R range. That is where the market has gone and there are lots of new and superior cameras out there. As Demetrius said, you cannot take your EF-M lenses with you, so you would be starting from scratch, thus we must consider the budget to include both body and lens.
Alternatively, we could look at the Canon PowerShot series, that does not have interchangeable lenses but is compact and produces great images for social media, digital display and small to medium sized prints.

if I can find a camera no more than $600 then I can possibly get a new camera but I cannot spend more than that and no I haven’t looked or contacted with cannon support

I am not sure that we can find you a new camera in that price range with a lens on the R series or even Powershot range. That would lead us to stick with the M50 you have. In that case the big question for me is what is it about your current lens that makes you want a different one?
Is it the ability to zoom in, or do you need it to work better in low light - for example?

I just want the appropriate lens to get into photography like family portraits I’m not sure if my lens is appropriate for that. It does well when I take pictures but I’ve been noticing more attention to detail on some of the other lenses unfairly new into cameras don’t really know much of lenses

Your issues could be to do with technique more than the need to get a new lens. Before investing limited resources I would suggest engaging in some education. I would suggest having a look at some of the following videos and see if they help. It may be you can work with what you have - the 15-45 is generally regarded as an OK lens.
