Canon 70-200 l f2.8 usm Motor Noise

Hi was wondering if anyone with the canon 70-200 have the same problem,When I attach it to my camera you can hear like a motor continuously running in the barrel is this normal….

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

The OP mentioned that when the camera was off the IS was still functioning. This shouldn't happen at all if the camera is off. That's why I was suspicious of the mount adapter a reset probably wouldn't fix the problem. Since the problem is happening when the camera is off. A reset is a good try though.

No this is NOT normal the AF motor and image stabilizer are only active when the camera is powered up. The lens should be 100% silent when the camera is OFF. What camera are you using this lens on. What is the Full name of the lens. Canon has made 4 different EF Mount versions (one without IS the other F/2.8L models have IS) and 1 RF Mount versions of this lens.  Are you adapting this to an EOS R series camera.

Yes it’s the 70/200 l is f2.8 ,I use it with my canon r7 with adapter

If you have an EF Mount DSLR camera test the lens on that camera to make sure its NOT the lens. You could have a faulty mount adapter. Which mount adapter are you using Canon or a 3rd party adapter. Stick with the 1st party Canon mount adapters.

works fine on my 5d, But when I put on my 7r with adapter goes off when you switch image stabiliser off

So your saying that the lens functions correctly with the IS turned OFF. The mount adapter is likely faulty then.

Will get new adapter,Thank you for your help…

If the mount adapter was purchased recently it can be exchanged or sent to Canon for repair.

Hold on there cowboy! Not so fast. First let's do a simple reset of the R7. Get it back to factory default. Menus>Tools>Clear all settings and Clear all custom settings. Now try the lens/adapter combo out. If it still shows improper behavior call Caon 1 (800) 652-2666.

Returning the adapter just to get another one that shows the same behavior won't help. Do the reset first and call support.
