"Do you actually think Nikon would make lens that wouldn't work in the heat?  Or Sigma or any company?  I have used both Canon and Nikon Nikkor lenses in all conditions.  Most if not all big teles focus past infinity for various reason. This being one of them."

"The number one reason for buying Canon is its lenses.  They are simply the best there is."

It is not a question of lenses not working in the heat.  It is a matter of focusing behavior changing as the internal elements are heated up.  I suppose this means that a lens can start drifting toward front/back focus as it warms up.

Maybe one reason why Canon is "simply the best there is" is because they pay meticulous attention to details, like realizing that sustained exposure to sunlight can affect larger lens elements enough to throw off the focus slightly.

Most lenses being made can focus past infinity, specifically to allow for thermal contraction and expansion.  Obviously, Canon seeks to minimize the heating effects of sustained exposure to strong sunlight in warm weather.

The article wasn't someone's opinion.  Have you ever heard of a what is known as a "white paper" before?  Engineers are usually the people who write them, specifically the principal investigator.  The articles in that knowledge base are layman versions of white papers.

"Enjoying photography since 1972."

"They are simply the best there is."

Absolutely, but never discount Nikon.  They make dam good stuff and it isn't white!

It matters not what papers or reviews are posted.  What matters is where the rubber meets the road.
