I just called Canon Technical Sevice and Kareem in Virginia gave me these instructions:

1. Turn off the printer

2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet

3. Unplug the power cord from the printer

4. Wait 3 minutes (This is supposed to clear the error message.)

5. Plug back into machine and wall outlet

6. Turn the printer on.

It didn't fix my printer's problem and I was advised to take it to a local electronics repair shop that works on printers. Kareem said replacing the print head may not work and then you'd be out the cost of the print head. Gah!! I use this for my business and will likely lose business because of now not having the fax operational.

My MX892 is about 1-1/2 years old, I keep a log of when I change ink cartridges and the last change was in Feb. 2015.

I think I remember having a paper jam about a week or so ago that I just reached in and pulled the paper forward through where the printed paper comes out. Kareem said that may have been the cause and to clear a paper jam, you should always try turning off the machine and then restarting. Or open it up (where??) to free the jammed paper.

I've used Canon printers for years. My PIXMA iP4200 required a new print head after many, many years of use (and it still prints great), but having a problem this soon with a 3 in 1 is very disappointing.

My MX892 just got this error. One cartridge ran out ink and this message popped up. I have tried cleaning and all new ink tanks nothing works. I have only used Canon printers and this is very disappointing.

I followed your instructions 20 times already and it does not work. Thanks for nothing. So, now what should I do.

I have tried every thing you have suggested and all I get is the error message, seems like this is programed into the printer, why should the print head prevent the printer from being used as a scanner, this is very dissapointing.  I am 74 years old and find this very hard to believe.  I am the only one using this printer and rarely print anything, I do use it as a scanner but almost never print.  I have now a unit, MX892, that is completely useless, the warranty is expired and I have accumilated about 25 spare ink cartridges that are now worthless.

This was the very best printer I ever owned and I was proud of it, now I think Canon is a rip off company finding ways to make sure people have to buy new equipment when they should not have to, I have been buying Canon products since I got into photography in the '50s and always trusted Canon, but after reading and experiencing this "wrong print head" error message U052 I am changing my mind about Canon.  I will pray for you, and in short while I'll be in Heaven asking the Lord to give you the grace to treat people with Love and fairness.

 God bless and guide you

it's truly unfortunate that Canon doesn't recognize this fatal flaw in their design; it's obvious they monitor this forum and yet they do nothing to help their customers resolve this specific print head issue; I myself went back and forth with tech support with no positive results; I also had a large inventory of spare ink and decided to take the machine to an authorized Canon repair facility (that's a whole other story- finding one in metro Los Angeles was almost impossible!) and spend $225 to have it fixed; reason being it's a good 3 in one printer when it works and I love the multiple sheet feeder. Come on Cannon... fess up to the design flaw, produce a recall and offer customers a free fix! It's a very frustrating issue that is turning many Canon fans to other products- next time it's a Brother printer!

Did anyone ever get ANY positive response from Canon?  Surely this great company will come up with a solution pleasing to all.

God bless

Jim

The response I got from Canon was: "Buy a new printer.  We'll give you 10% off the list price as part of our Customer Loyalty Program."  Of course, Amazon and Staples sell the same printer for 50% off the list price, so loyal customers pay a lot more.  I doubt the class action suits will do much better.

You got that right

Has one person come back to you saying the your post helped them????  I bet it's zero.  pretty insulting

Did anyone every find a fix to the U052 error?  Or am I out of luck and have to buy a new printer?

Buying a new printer is probably your cheapest option. You could pay $75 for a new printhead, but the problem is almost certainly in the printer itself, which will cost you $200 to fix.

Better just to pay $96 for a new Canon MX922 on Amazon. Or if you've had enough of Canon, buy a Brother MFC-J470DW for $79.
