how to use only a black print cartridge in a mp490

I use windows 7. And would like to only use only the black print cartridge.

Do you mean print only black and white, or print without any color cartridges in the printer at all (or with empty ones!)

Hi Puck,

To use only the black ink cartridge, please follow these steps:

 1.  Click on Start, and then click on Control Panel.

 2.  Click on Printers and Faxes.

 3.  Right click the Canon MP490 Series Printer and left click on Printing Preferences.

 4.  Click on the Maintenance tab at the top.

 5.  Click on the Ink Cartridge Settings button.

 6.  Change to Black Only.

 7.  Click OK.

The PIXMA MP490 will only print from the black cartridge.
