This is not my thing, not good at support features. Pixma is only about 2 years old. The printer works fine fine but my Photoshop software says there is no scanner installed.

Hi, ClaraDon!
So that the Community can help you better, please let us know whether you're able to scan in any other application, and also which operating system (i.e. Windows or Mac OS X, and which version thereof) you're using. That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!
If this is a time-sensitive matter, our US-based technical support team is standing by, ready to help 24/7 via Email at http://bit.ly/Canon-Support or by phone at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) weekdays between 10 AM and 10 PM ET (7 AM to 7 PM PT).
Thanks and have a great day!

The Copy function works OK. I can make copies. Photoshop is the only sftware I use for scanning photos.

Hello.
Depending on the version of Photoshop you have, a TWAIN plugin may be needed. Visit www.adobe.com to see if there are any updates for your software.
If you continue to have difficulties, try scanning with our IJ Scan Utility program instead.
