Pixma TR8620a - printing orange instead of pink from Macbook & iPhone - brand new

Hello! I hope someone can help. I just purchased a TR8620a printer last week (Black Friday) and it's printing orange instead of pink. I have a Macbook with Ventura OS 13.0.1. I've called both Canon AND Apple to problem-solve for several hours each time. I've done the following: multiple test prints from Mac and iPhone, tried changing the printer color management, uninstalling/reinstalling the printer software AND Mac Ventura OS.

Canon says it's an Apple issue. Apple says it's a Canon issue. Apple said the printer is broken, and to return it for a new one, I just did that...and the new one is STILL printing pink as orange?! (insert ANGRY face!) Red also has an orange tinge as well. Yellows, blues, and blacks print fine. I don't know what to do, except return the printer as broken and/or incompatible with my Mac. Test prints shows the colors are just fine. But not when printed via my Mac or iPhone.

I have also tried to install the printer not using Bonjour, since one solution I found suggested this option; however, I don't see a way to stop my Mac choosing Bonjour automatically. I tried re-adding the Canon printer again as a "new" printer but it defaults to Bonjour. From the drop-down list of software, there is nothing for Canon, just Epson and HP...seriously, Canon?!

I'm concerned I'll have to get an HP printer (ink is prohibitively expensive over time), or Epson (they have software stopping 3rd party ink usage). I really like this printer, so I am loathe to return it if there is a solution that I am missing.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have a small business, so this is really crippling my work. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 🙂

Hi John,

Thanks so MUCH for troubleshooting with me. I used Canva to create the images, then downloaded as a PDF. I thought perhaps it was just a Canva/PDF issue. But, even when I print from Pages or Word, or a screenshot, I get the same sherbet orange color - to a deep burnt orange. But when printed from the web test print page, all was well.

I think it's my Mac that is the issue, since you're getting the same result. The files and/or color management setup is not processing pink.

I'm going to check for viruses, reboot, re-add the printer, test it, and then call Apple. I can't imagine how 3 printers are all wrong - especially since yours works well until it prints my files. I had an HP for years and never had this issue. Sigh. I will update you later...as I hate when folks leave you hanging!

Many thanks again, be in touch later.

Forgot to say that I just printed from Canva downloading a file as a PNG rather than a PDF. Same issue. I'm so completely perplexed!

It's not the Mac. As I said in my post, same thing happened on my Windows PC. I also printed from DropBox with same result.

I just tried printing from my Pro-100 photo printer. Same exact output. Not a printer issue and not a Mac issue.

I tried Googling the issue. Didn't find a direct answer but did see some discussion where CYMK printers (like ours) have difficulty printing some RGB colors that display OK on an RGB display like computers use.

Maybe there is a help forum for your creation software?

Oh, wow! This is crazy! All of your printers are seeing the orange instead of pink. So, there has to be setting somewhere that's not correct. And I just did a virus check - nothing was found.

I think it might be that Canva or another program is still dictating the color spectrum. Agree re CYMK vs RGB being an issue. But, on my HP that just stopped working (after 10 years), I never had issues with hues.

I'm going to call Apple and see if they can help me reset the printer/color settings. So that I can start fresh. I may also remove Canva, since that app is on my Mac to see if it's doing anything weird. And I'll Google this issue again.

I did see on Amazon that there was a low rating for the same pinks printing as orange issue. So, I'm not alone. I know there's a solution. It's just finding it that's annoying. I could get another brand. But, will I get the same issue? I'd rather try to fix this one. Thanks, John!

Was the HP printer a dye ink printer or pigment ink printer?

Hi John,

I had an HP Photosmart C4780 ink jet all-in-one printer. It did me proud for about 10 years. HP no longer supported it, so when it started to chew paper and stop printing, I had to throw it. I did the same type of research first, but I knew it's time was done. 😞

Hi John,

Updating you as promised. I spoke to another Canon rep - she was super helpful - and thinks that it could be a Mac Color Sync Utility issue. Called back to Apple, and am now working with a Tech Manager to figure out what is going on. Should get some type of resolution by the end of this week. I will update in a few days.

In the meantime, extending another hearty THANK YOU for your help and trouble-shooting today! Hopefully, I'll have good news in the coming days. If not, I'll cut my losses and purchase another brand.
