The cover of the printer has a longer plastic prong that dips into the body of the printer which presses some sort of lever which tells the printer that the cover is closed. I had a shipping issue where something has either broken off inside the printer body or otherwise doesn't catch the prong, so the printerhead is always out, as if the cover is up.
Is there a guide or some knowhow as to how to go about opening up the printer (it's long out of warranty anyway), so I could potentially fix it?
Thanks!

Hi sixfootewok,
You are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.
If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 Monday through Saturday, 9am to 9pm. Let them know you have been working with technical support and the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.
