Numerous times, my TR8520 won't "recognize" my blue ink cartridge 281. I have now bought extra ones, from Canon, so very authentic cartridges. So now my printer will not print.

Hi,
I recommend performing a reset of the printer. While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the printer. While the power is off, press the power button 5 times. After 60 seconds plug the power cord back in and power on the printer.
If the same thing happens with the Canon cartridge, please reply with the error code that appears on the printer.

Well, your great suggestion didn't really solve my problem. After about 10 power off-power on I had already done before your solution, I had already gotten the blue ink to print. However, now my problem is I cannot get my printer to scan. It was scanning by "save to pic", "select pc" and my pc was there and scanned. But now, the pc isn't there, and even when I use "local USB", it will not scan even using the cord. What do you suggest now? I have a MacBook Air.
Thank you.

It says "processing... please wait momentarily", then goes back to the previous screen. It doesn't allow me to "select the PC"

NOTE: I'm no longer asking about a cartridge. I'm now asking about scanning.
