PIXMA MG5550 CRAP Cannot scan

Totally crap that you cannot scan, whilst your stupid Pixma MG5550 is syaing there is a fault wiht the ink cartridge or has no ink, or does not recognize cartridge. Have tried all the suggested tips to over ride but none of them are working. Big pile of wasted **bleep**e. Talk about producing use once machines.

To do that we will need more than a vague description of your issue. 

We know your printer model

How is it connected?

What specific error are you seeing? 

What OS are you using it with?

What drivers are installed?

Did it work previously?

If yes, what changed?

Like a car, your printer needs to be fully operation before you try to use it or "take it on a trip".  So you need to resolve the errors or issues that might keep your printer from functioning correctly before you can expect it to work normally.  Scanning is one function, but can rely on the printers ability to print what you've scanned, so starting there is the best first step.
