I have a Pixma mx490. When I press the power button the green light comes on as if it is on, but nothing else happens. It doesn't go through the usual noises of starting up, and there is nothing on the screen. Nothing happens when I push any of the buttons. It's as if it's in sleep mode but there's no way to get it out. I have unplugged it and plugged it back in many times. While searching for a solution, I came across a suggestion for a different issue and it was a series of pressing buttons while turning it on. While doing that I did get the printer to start up. I thought all was well, but when I went to use it yesterday it wasn't working again. I don't remember and I cannot find what I did to get it to turn on the last time. Anything I try now doesn't work. The green light comes on but nothing else happens. I really need to print out a medical form before it's too late and I'm getting really frustrated.

Hi dianemb88,
Beased on your description of the issue, it would appear that your PIXMA MX490 would require service. You are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.
To help you get up and running quickly, we also offer free standard shipping (if the order is completed by 12:30PM ET). If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 seven days a week, 8am to Midnight. Let them know you have been working with technical support and the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.

I am having the same issue. What do you think the problem might be? I replaced the power supply and that didn't solve the problem.

Believe it or not, it is probably the cord. I have multiple printers next to each other all using same 2-slot to printer power cord.. I was moving printers around and got the same symptoms everyone is describing. Plug in, the power button gets a green LED but the machine does not really power up since no parts move and display is blank. And no way to turn off green LED except unplug. Well, I re-attached with original power plug and now printer works. So a plausible cause maybe the plug even though you get a green LED when you plug in a faulty or inappropriate cord.
