Color Cartridge MUST be inside?

M4n0u

Hello,

i have a MP240 Canon Multi functional device, connected via USB to Windows 7, all thing :drivers and so on are perfect installed.

The Problem: i dont have and "i dont need" the color ink cartridge(i installed only a new black cartridge), i have configured the driver for "Black Only" printing on "Plain Paper" but i can do nothing with the device as long as the color cartridge is not inside, Error code E,5 displayed(with 'c' LED flashes) and device doesnt print or scan or copy, neither via computer commands nor buttons on device.

My Question: MUST be both the black and color cartridge inside, to be the device alive? how can use the device without  color cartridge?(i dont need it now)

thank u for every helping tipp

Hello M4n0u,

Setting the printer to print using only the black cartridge as you have done will allow you to print in black, even if the color ink cartridge is low/out of ink, however both ink cartridges will need to be in the printer in order for the printer to scan, copy, or print.  Hope this helps!

If all you are doing is printing B/W text, It might be more advantageous to purchase a really inexpensive B/W laser printer from COSTCO. I did that over a year ago. Spent less than $50

When it comes to TONER, heck it's only B/W, you're not worrying about colour balance. Personally, I think that if you're going to use a brand of printer and you are picky about printing great stuff, thats why there are such things and R&D departments. . Buy Canon printer, use Canon Ink & Media, but again, if all you want to do is simply read... what difference does it make? When my TONER ran dry with that cheap laser printer, the new replacement toner was enough to choke a horse. I have been using an aftermarket toner, reloading the stuff myself for about $13 - not $75 -- your choice!
