how do I download video from camcorder to Mac?

I have a VIXIA HF R800 and am using OS Mojave 10.14.6 on my MacBook Pro

Transfer is done over USB. The manual covers this quite well from page 141 onward. The manual mentions a Canon software application called "CameraWindow DC" that is used to download videos.
