The correct and budget way of using canon legria hf r806 as a web cam device

I want to use this device as a webcam cause my builtin webcam does not provide hd videos.

I learnt that I should but some capture card (one sample was from elgato) to use this camera as a webcam? Is it correct? I want to learn if any direct hdmi connection would work instead? 

Actually, if I need to but a card, I would love to learn about a cheaper but working alternative ?
