Best budget flash for an R6? I’m new to using a flash and would rather practice with something on the lower budget size. Maybe around $100?

I would like to confirm that you're using the original EOS R6 NOT the EOS R6 Mark II. A flash for under $100 will NOT have any type of automatic flash control by the camera. It will be manual only. So for any type of automatic flash control you'll will need to spend $150 or more.

Do you want new or used. Older used Canon speedlites are more affordable if you're NOT doing any type off camera flash work. Canon guarantees compatibility with their speedlites. Off brand equipment is up to the off brand manufacturer to ensure compatibility. While the up front price is cheap compatibility is an unknown if it will work on your next camera or even your current camera. Manual flashes DO NOT support features like E-TTL (Auto mode for the flash), Rear/ 2nd Curtain Sync and High Speed Sync/ FP Flash or any kind of off camera flash use.

Canon has been transitioning to the new multi-function hot shoe. All new speedlite products are being released with the new multi-function hot shoe. Your camera uses the older 5 pin hot shoe that Canon has used since 1986. No new current flashes are being released with that hot shoe design anymore. The new multi-function hot shoe flashes are incompatible with older cameras. Any of Canon's older speedlites ending in "EX" are fully compatible with your camera. Also the EL-100 & EL-1 Speedlites are compatible with your camera. Other Canon Speedlites such as the EL-5 & EL-10 ARE NOT COMPATIBLE with your camera. The only older EX speedlite for sale is the Canon 430EX III-RT but its above the price range. Its on sale for $299 currently new. Unless you're not opposed to any used older Canon Speedlites.

The EL-100 or 430EX-III RT are good choices.

I checked Canon for new and refurbished stock, none are available. B&H has the 430EX-III RT.

KEH has both. The 430EX-III RT is $134 with its 20% discount (at the moment). I'd go that route.

Good catch Rick I was about to check KEH for any flashes available. But didn't get a chance to look into the EL-100 as far as I can tell its been discontinued. Maybe a new speedlite may be coming to replace it.

Demetrius,

You are correct. The EL-100 appears to be discontinued. The 430EX-III RT is a good enthusiast grade flash at a reasonable price point.

Yes the 430EX III-RT is a great flash. If it’s not available another alternative is the 470EX-AI. Which is also another good flash.

Yes all Canon brand speedlites will communicate all settings to the camera. It will also have the ability execute E-TTL (Auto mode for the flash). The camera’s metering system determines flash power. Then the speedlite will fire the correct amount of light that the camera told it to. Other features in the speedlite are High Speed Sync (HSS)/ FP Flash. Then 2nd/ rear curtain sync.
