Will my current R5 flash triggers work with my new R5 Mark II? I've seen conflicting answers to this?

I have the Canon AD-E1 Multi-Function Shoe Adapter on order, but I would like to be able to shoot with my off-camera flashes without the adapter if possible.

Is the trigger Canon or 3rd Party. If 3rd Party there maybe incompatibilities. If Canon only weather sealed speedlites need the adapter.

I use both Godox and Flashpoint triggers. I'm currently using the new Godox X3-C trigger and love its tiny footprint. I have a Canon EL-1 flash but I don't like to put it on the hot shoe as it's so heavy and mount it to a ProMediaGear Boomerang L-bracket when I'm not doing off-camera shooting. Now that I've got my R5 Mk II, I hope to get a chance to test it this weekend.

I don't really care about weather sealing as I'd never take my camera out in the rain.

Does a Canon Speedlite work correctly. This happens all the time with 3rd Party gear. It works fine on older cameras. But it won't work correctly on newer bodies.

If your Canon Speedlite EL-1 works correctly when on the EOS R5 Mark II, then the problem is with the Westcott / Godox / Flashpoint triggers, and they need to update their devices to work with the camera.

It is simple to pull off the rubber weather seal on the foot of the EL-1 and then it will fit correctly on the EOS R5 Mark II hotshoe without using the AD-E1 adapter. It is also simple to put the weather seal back on the flash too.

Answer to my own question. Initial testing reveals that my existing Godox and Flashpoint flash triggers work fine with my new Canon EOS R5 Mk II. You don't need the AD-E1 adapter unless everything needs to be waterproof. For what it's worth, my existing Vello off camera flash cable works fine with the R5 Mk II and the Canon EL-1 flash. So far it appears that my existing off camera non-Canon flash system works okay with the Mark II as I transition from the original R5 to the Mk II. I was concerned about the new smart flash shoe but so far it's a non event.

Also as best I can tell the AD-E1 adapter is not required for the EL-1 flash either. I haven't done a lot of testing yet but it seems to work fine hooked directly on the R5 Mk II's shoe. Canon literature says you have to have it but apparently if you don't shoot in the rain, it's not necessary. I wish the literature was clearer on why you need the AD-E1 adapter as it would have saved me $40.

So far all of my non-Canon flash gear (flashes and triggers) works with the Mark II without a problem. And I don't see any need for the AD-E1 adapter unless you plan on needing everything waterproof as my EL-1 works fine on the new hot shoe.
