topic 470EX-AI and R8: Semi automatic mode does not work in Speedlite Flashes

I have a R8 with firmware 1.3. It does not seem to be compatible with my 470 EX – AI. Is anyone using this flash with the R8? The semi automatic mode does not work at all. It only will shoot straight forward. Any advice would be appreciated.

With the flash set to Semi move the flash head to the desired position and press the set button on the side of the flash. Then it won't move at all.
