Compatibility betwenn 1Dx mark II and Canon Speedlite EL-5

Hi,

I planned to buy a flash for my Canon 1Dx mark II and I would like to know if the Canon Speedlite EL-5 is compatible or only the new R cameras of Canon.

The Speedlite EL-5 has the new multifunction accessory shoe foot, this means it will only fit on the hotshoe of the following models of EOS R cameras.

EOS R3
EOS R10
EOS R50
EOS R7
EOS R8
EOS R6 Mark II

There is no adapter to allow this Speedlite to be fitted to your EOS-1D X Mark II hotshoe.

However, if you use a Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT (any version) or Speedlite 600EX II-RT, Speedlite 430EX III-RT, Speedlite EL-1 on you camera hotshoe they can control the EL-5 off-camera when it is configured as a receiver (formerly known as slave) unit.
