AFAICT, the M50 internal flash has no wireless capabilities. So you need a flash master.

The cheaper (and much easier to set up!) way to go is to buy a flash extension cord

After some research, I saw that the m50 works with the 430 ex ii flash but can it work wirelessly without a flash trigger? Going to purchase it tomorrow off Facebook so I can use it as an external flash. If the wireless function doesn't work with the EOS m50 what (budget-friendly) flash trigger do you recommend? and do I need to purchase anything else to use it as an external flash instead of the hotshoe?

Be aware that “wireless” can have different meanings when it comes to Speedlites. The older models used line-of-sight light signals to trigger remotes. It is only just in the last several years that radio frequency wireless communication capabilities were added to Speedlites.
