topic Will my 5D Mark III and 580EX function together seamlessly? in Speedlite Flashes

Been playing/testing the functionality of my 5D Mark III and 580EX (not 580EX II). The camera doesn't seem to recognize ETTL from the menu. Are there limitations between these two devices?

I'm pretty sure that the original 580ex didn't have in-camera menu control. You have to adjust the settings on the flash, not the camera (FEC withstanding).

Hello jdd1701,

The Speedlite 580EX II and EOS 5D Mark III are compatible in every way they can be, meaning any EX Series Speedlite will work with any EOS camera. You wouldn't be able to adjust the settings through the camera menu like you would with, a Speedlite 600EX, for example.
