I recently purchased a 70d and would like to know if my 550 ex speedlight will work on it until I can upgrade my flash unit.

Yes, it will work fine with all EOS cameras.

The 550EX was designed before in-camera flash menu's so you will need to make some adjustments on the flash itself instead of the camera.
