Does a Speedlite 420EX made in 2001 can work with a new EOS 60D?

HI!

I have a Speedlite 420EX bought in 2001, working perfectly until now with an EOS300.

Last week I bought a new EOS60D and I would like to know if this camera can work with this old flash.

I am concerned about that and need a confirmation that turn it on will not burn the EOS60D.

Yes, it's fine. The 420 is a bit dated now, but I'd still consider it a "modern speedlite". It won't damage your camera. And it should provide full eTTL.

Just to bolster what Skirball said: I am still using the 380-EX that was made for the Elan 2 and Elan 7 FILM cameras, and it works fine with my Rebel, S5-IS, and SX40-HS - and that means ALL speedlite features - including the motorized zoom head. Until I just recently got the 430-EX-II, the 380-EX was the only external flash I had for my Canon cameras, so you should have no problem with your 420-EX.
