CanoScan LiDE 400 scanner

My first two scanner questions:

1. is there any way to adjust contrast or brightness within the program?
It seems as if the save to target folder is instantaneous so it seems the image would need to be held in order to do this.

2. is there any way to crop or rotate within the program ?

Same as above - the image would need to be held.

Does the scan utility give the ability to vary brightness and contrast or not?

Scan utilities do not have capability to crop and rotate.

These things are done on the computer in your image-viewing program.

I had a much older Canon scanner that did permit crop and rotate within the program before saving - it was a convenience. I imagine for this to happen in the LiDE 400, the temporary images would have to be retained in the program and not automatically released to the target folder for any manipulation of the image to be done. This does not seem to be the case here although I did have it in older Canon scanner models.

That is exactly what I am thinking, Apprentice.

I had a CanoScan 9000 which I actually still have but in a different location.

It can crop & rotate because it retained the image within the program until released. It also had a much better on screen interface that actually made sense as opposed to the one that came with the LiDE 400. The 9000 interface was intuitive, as opposed to the counterintuitive Lide.Additionally, if the image is immediately released, copies of the documents can be recovered.

In any case, I think utility has been reduced with the new scanners. Likely flatbeds are on their way out.
