Hey Everyone,

Install Canon CanoScan 500F on windows 10 and 11
If you are trying rto get the Scanner to install.
Follow these steps below.
I managed to find a driver that actually worked for me.

Step1: Find the driver called lide500fvst6411222a_64en.

I just happed to find a url: https://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer/products/scanners/canoscan/lide-series/canoscan-lide-500f.html?type=drivers&os=Windows%207%20(64-bit)

Support

Canon CanoScan LiDE 500F

Download drivers, software, firmware and manuals and get access to troubleshooting resources for your Scanner. This will work. May not been one for it but it worked. IT's like a univeral driver for Canon Scanner atleast mine worked.

Step 2: How to make this work.
First of all if you have any cannon software or just scanner third-party installed
UNINSTALL IT NOW.
Do not install any software.
After you un-install all scanner software.
Reboot computer. This will clear out anything saved on your cache on pc.
Log back inito the computer.
now.
Install 7-zip on your pc.
Go to google and search for 7-zip 64 bit download.
or just go here.
https://www.7-zip.org/
install 7-zip because when i used WinZip or default uncompress on Windows pc. That didn't work for me.
Next double click on the downloaded file lide500fvst6411222a_64en and it should be placed where you have the file located usually Downloads Dir.
Now i used a program called VueScan Pro - Third Party application.
I didn't try to use the default program that came with the Canon CanoScan 500F
because this scanner is very old as of today 1-10-2-26 todays date.
The software that comes with your Canon CanoScan 500F scanner is 32 bit software.
There for - Not going to work. Windows 10/11 doesn't support this software.
Trust Me!
I'm an IT Software Developer and I know it wont work. I tried. 3 times
Then decided to use a Third-Party Scanner Software
The reason why VueScan Pro worked is because they actually do support older Epson, HP, Canon Scanners.
But ! Remember you have to install the lide500fvst6411222a_64en
Reboot PC again
Install your chosen Scanner Software
Then it will work.
IF you have to unplug the scanner usb cable out and wait 1 or 2 minutes then connect it again.
NOTE: This Scanner the Canon CanoScan 500F uses the USB 2.0 USB Port. Not the USB 3.0 PORT
OK, THAT IS IT FOR NOW.
I HOPE THIS WORKED FOR SOMEONE ELSE OUT IN THE LAND OF SCANNERS NO WORKING 🙂

To know you downloaded the correct file for this
After you extract the zip file.
The ReadMe files as this inside

ScanGear CS 11.2.2.2 for 64-bit Edition
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Copyright (C) 2006 Canon Inc.

o Microsoft and Windows are registered trademarks of Microsoft
Corporation in the U.S. and in other countries.
o Other company and product names may be trademarks and/or registered
trademarks in their respective countries.

1. ScanGear CS 11.2 Features

ScanGear CS 11.2 for Windows x64-bit Edition (hereafter referred to as
"ScanGear CS") is a TWAIN-compliant scanner driver for Canon CanoScan LiDE 500F
scanner. When this driver is selected from within a TWAIN-compliant
32-bit application program, this scanner can be used to scan image data.

2. A General Tip on Usage

o Only run one application at a time that is actively linked to
ScanGear CS. Do not open more than one application that is actively
linked to ScanGear CS.
Also, do not open ScanGear CS more than once to acquire an image in
the same application.

Hey minpin! Thanks for the guide, though I'm having a bit of trouble even when following your instructions all throughout. (4) installed the unzipped file, and (5) ran the Vuescan software, but even after all of these, Vuescan was unable to find and detect the driver on my computer. Any tips?

I'm not the OP, but I will try to clarify.

What I did for Canon Lide 500F to work in Windows 10:

downloaded the file lide500fvst6411222a_64en.exe

extracted twice internals of the file with Far Manager (you may use any other util that can recognized the files inside the exe, probably the mentioned 7zip can do this). First step is SetupSG.exe inside, then this file contains all other necessary files. The contents of what you extracted should now have CNQ_X64, CNQL500, CNQSG112 folders, CNQL500.INF file and several other files.

Connected the scanner, after some time in the device manager there's an item CanoScan (or similar) with a question mark so device is visible but no drivers were found. Right click -> Update driver -> ... I will show location ... and point to the folder where the files from the previous step were extracted. Now the driver is installed

check whether you now have the folder C:\Windows\twain_32\CNQL500 or similar. Go to System environment variables dialog (google if you're not familiar), find Path in the System section. Edit->Add ... and enter this path.

No reboot is needed, an ancient Photoshop (32 bit) and probably other software supporting twain source now can Import CanonScan Lide 500F using the canon native dialog.
