Thank you. With your encouragement I have tried both options and both work: the supplied USB2 to TOTU USB hub and USB4 to USB4. I am running MAC OS Sequoia 15.5. Everything seems to work.

Can a USB4 to USB4 cable be used to connect the CanoScan LIDE 300 to a MacBook Air. The New M4 airs have only USB4 ports. If not, could something like a TOTU USB hub be used?

Thank you

Hey there!
Your MacBook Air USB port is backward compatible with everything that macOS can communicate with, so when you plug the device in, it will recognize the protocol it should use - in this case, USB 2.0. You just need to make sure the cable (or hub) provides both data and power. If you have a current-generation iPhone or a recent iPad, those cables should work.
