The only option was to pay for Canon support which I didn't think was going to help. Contrary to what Canon says, I believe older standalone scanners are not supported by ARM based on my experience and what I've read on reddit.

So I returned the Surface and got an x86 laptop.

Should be compatible. See this article and associated instructions:

Thank you John for pointing me to the article.

I'll have the look more into this because the directions certainly did not work: "If you want to use your product via USB with a Windows 10 or 11 device running on an ARM-based processor, simply plug your device into an available USB port. A driver will be installed automatically."

There's nothing plug and play about this and the setup file did not work.

Thanks again.

I found this thread. The creator hasn't replied, though I was trying to help someone with a Windows 11 Microsoft Surface load either of the drivers: sc68-win-lide400-1_01-ea34_2, win-lide400-1_2-n_mcd, and no joy. Probably ARM is the culprit. Probably the answer is to send the scanner back and get something that will.

Greetings,

Currently, Canon does not offer full featured ARM drivers for any of it's printers or scanners (I am aware). Its not possible to use Windows drivers intended for (x64) Intel based systems on ARM based platforms. I do think full featured ARM support is coming, but am not sure when. This is speculation on my part.

For now, the only option is what Microsoft offers for ARM.
