Pixma Pro-1 (Paper feed slips to one side & smudg during last 1 inch of print on larger print sizes)

My Canon Pixma Pro-1 prints fine on smaller print sizes e.g. 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 etc but when I go to larger e.g. letter sizes, it prints fine upto last 1 inch, then makes moises (possibly slippage ??) and paper feeds to one side and smudges. I did notice a pool of ink at left hand side in sponge pads and have soaked up some of that and have got a slight improvement but still the noises and heavy band in last 1 inch. Any suggestions ?
