Hello-I'm trying to set up and initialize my new Imageprograf Pro 1100 printer. Per the on-screen instructions, the first ink cartridge to be installed is yellow. I have tried multiple times to install the yellow cartridge. It mechanically will securely engage with the ink bay opening, but it always pops back (just a little) while still staying secure. The "OK" light continues to be greyed out. On the screen, it shows a little yellow square above the designated opening, so at some level it's being recognized, but yet the on-screen instructions continue to tell me to install the yellow cartridge. I suspect the cartridge is mechanically engaged, but the electronic contact is not, hence the printer does not "know" that the cartridge is installed. My online research that this may be an issue of "The Yellow ink slot’s electrical contact block is rigid and does not depress. The printer cannot detect the cartridge and cannot complete initialization".

I have tried gently pressing the electrical contact, but there is no give at all. I have also made sure that ink bay lid is closed after installation. When I do close it, the screen says "processing", only to (again) tell me to load the yellow cartridge.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? I'm stuck.

Greetings,

If you are certain you have removed all of the packing materials and tape from the printer, cartridge, and attempted to reseat multiple times, I'd give Canon support a call.

Thanks for your note. No tape on the printer or cartridges. The cartridges do have a white-ish cap on the front end of the cartridge, which I assume is supposed to stay there. There were no on-screen instructions to remove it.

Does the cartridge click into place? Does it click when you hold it in place? Do any of the cartridges click into their proper place? Yellow does not need to go in first, and the rounded bump on the cartridge goes down. It snaps in and backs up a bit to lock in place as seen here:

Greetings,

The whitish cap "thingy" does not get removed. 😉. The cartridges should slide in and click when fully inserted similar to a SD card. Use a flashlight and look in the slot. Make sure there's nothing in there/compared to the one next to it. I know it's the weekend and Canon support is closed. ☹️ You won't be able to call them until Monday.

This video helped. I found out that it's normal for the cartridge to pop back just a little bit. I think the other error I was making was assuming that the okay button would light up after each cartridge is inserted. After viewing the video, it looks like I have to install ALL the cartridges first, close the ink bay lid....then the "ok" will light up, letting me proceed with the set up. I'll give that a try.

Thanks everyone for your assistance. I did call Canon support. Here's where I got hung up: After I installed the yellow cartridge, I expected the on-screen instruction to direct me to install the next cartridge. Instead, the Canon rep just said to go ahead all the cartridges, in no particular order. After that, the printer successfully continued with its initialization process. I think the on-screen instructions could have been clearer to just say, "Install all the cartridges". Anyway, it's now up and running and I made my first test print. I really appreciated everyone input.
