Do you order dye inks during strong winter? Is it safe?

Hello. I use Pixma PRO-200S and some of my inks are getting low, and here are no any local shops which sell such ink cartridges. I'm afraid to order it online because we have quite freezy nights here now (can be around -15 -18 C). Also our online shops don't have them in stock too (welcome to Estonia..), they obtain such cartridges from their abroad partners, which means inks will be traveling around week during freezy temperatures. I guess it's not much warmer inside of a delivery truck than outside. Have anyone ordered dye inks during strong freeze and was there any quality degradation because of freezing?

I don't think you have much of a choice. @jrhoffman75 posted some helpful information. Inks are tolerant of the cold according to his article.

Estonia.... I visited Tallinn in late 2024. Beautiful. I didn't see any places to buy ink, but I'm sure I wasn't in the right area. Here are some shots for you to enjoy.

This is interesting to hear that inks have some anti-freeze properties, though the brand was never specified in the article, but I guess Canon should be aware too of shipping at freeze, so maybe I can just try and see. I just worry that even if visually everything will be ok, what if there will be long term damage such as lightfastness reduce, which can't be spotted immediately of course. Or maybe I overthink 🙂

Yes it's not like I have alternative options, but ink level is around 20% so I still could try and print less until March 🙂 I also have that paranoia that maybe even if visual quality of print will be the same, but what if lightfastness could be potentially affected by freezy conditions, something what can't be noticed immediately. This is something what could be answered by developers of inks, but Canon support says they don't have such information. I guess maybe they are just being lazy to send my request further.

Heh 🙂 glad to hear that visiting Estonia left positive mood for you! Though of course not all towns look the same as Tallinn, but they are still nice in own ways. You took some nice photos as well. Here are plenty of inks in stock but they are mostly for basic level printers with just 4 inks system, not professional ones.

I wouldn’t worry. Products that are air freighted and exposed to low temps.
