PIXMA PRO 100 wont load paper

I contacted the Canon rep and he mentioned my paper is too heavy for the Pro-100 to print on, which is ridiculous.

I use Canson Aquarelle rag 11x17 for some prints and 4x6 heavy cardstock with deckled egdes(shown below) for most of my prints.

Does anyone have any reccomendations on printer settings for illustrator or Photoshop that would help the printer realize i am loading heavy paper ???

I use the top loading Rear Tray and have to stand by the printer and essentially force feed the paper down for something to print.
