topic Zoom Hum in Professional Video

I own a VIXIA G30. Is it suppose to hum when zooming? I can barely hear it when I place the camera next to my ear. But when watching a video with live zooming the hum is really load and makes the video unuseable. Anybody have any suggestions about what may be happening?

Does the camera make a vibration sound when you zoom in? If your microphone is attached to the shoe closer to the front of the camera, you will hear the zoom when the mic is attached to the 3.5mm jack.

Yes, you may pick up the whir of the lens servo motors when doing a fast zoom and especially if you are recording with auto audio levels where the auto gain control will amplify faint sounds in quiet scenes. Mentioned on page 58 in the user manual.
