topic HF R72 and Lavalier Microphones in Professional Video

I recently purchased an HF R72 for vlogging, and I'm having trouble with using lavalier microphones with it. When plugged in, I get absolutely no sound unless I manually adjust the microphone sensitivity all the way to 100, and even then I barely hear any audio on the recorded video. I've confirmed that the microphone is fine, so it appears to be the jack. Is this normal behavior for the camcorder? The manual mentions needing powered microphones, and I'm wondering if just using a passive microphone is not an option.

What microphone are you using? You might be using something that requires plug-in power.
