Hi everyone,

with the recent announcement of the Canon R6V, which now supports internal compressed CLog2 recording, I was wondering why Canon still refuses to implement compressed CLog2 on the Canon R5 C. It feels a bit strange, especially considering the R5C belongs to the Cinema EOS line.

Do you think it would be possible to submit a feature request to Canon for this?

Thanks!

I'm frustrated by this too; I would love to have Log 2 on my R5C.

But it seems you're assuming that Log 2 is something that could be added to existing cameras -- i.e. in software. Do you have a basis for this?

In general, any kind of processing on live video simply can't be done in software -- it needs dedicated hardware. If you want to see why, calculate the amount of data you would be handling. 8192x4320x60x12 = 25 gigabits per second; or over 2 billion pixels per second. That's ludicrous. If you want to do a LUT in software, for example, think about how many steps are needed to do 3-D interpolation on each pixel, then multiply by 2 billion per second.

So, does the R5C have some kind of programmable gamma curve processing hardware, that could in theory be programmed to do Log 2? I have no idea.

The question is whether the DIGIC chips are fpga's that are programmable (or have a section that is programmable) and I don't have an answer for that.
