I have trouble using the built-in screen for touch control as it is so small. I bought a Portkeys monitor which is supposed to be able to give touch control of some camera functions on a larger screen. The monitor has several connection options but the right one for Canon seems to be WiFi- USB and LAN do not work. The monitor only accepts 2.4Ghz connections. I can set the camera to that in photo mode but can't find a setting for that in video mode. I am running the latest firmware (1.0.2.1). Can anyone help?

Need to be able to set my camera to

Greetings,

Upon review, the specs indicate you have to use a certified ethernet adapter for compatibility. I found these listed in the specs on the device's support portal. Canon lists these as tested and compatible.

https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/Ethernet-Adapters-Confirmed-to-Work-with-the-EOS-C50

Model Number

Manufacturer

US1GC30W

StarTech.com

US2GC30

StarTech.com

UG-USBC-25052

UGREEN

Cable compatibility:

https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/Cables-Supported-for-Use-with-the-EOS-C50

Wireless info:

In access point mode both 2.4 and 5 GHz is supported. It supports Auto and manual configuration. If you select a broadcast channel of 1 -13 it should broadcast on 2.4Ghz. If others, probably 149 and above it'll broadcast in 5G. I didn't find any specs on 5 GHz so this is a guess, but they should be available if you use manual configuration.

More interesting information. You'll definitely want to review the user guide. Network information starts on page 167. Specific Wireless information is on page 168 and 175.

https://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/3/0300052803/01/eosc50-aug-video-en.pdf

I was able to confirm my guess above. If you select lower channels it's 2.4 and higher channels it's 5G. The manual is vague here but states Canon will not provide any networking configuration support. Probably going to take a little trial and error, but shouldn't be too hard.

You can tell when you review the manual that the connectivity options are pretty advanced. The camera is extremely robust. I don't think it'll be too difficult once you roll up your sleeves and get in there.

One thing I do want to mention. You'll need to work with the accessory manufacturer to get support for their product(s). Canon can only support what they designed or built. I'm sure you understand that.

If you get stuck, I'm sure they'll do what they can to help. Canon support 1-800-652-2666 🙂

So I was able to get the C50 connected to the Portkeys BM7 II DS 7. I should do a video on it because it's a pain in the butt and not straight forward. I had to redo it after the latest firmware since it reset everything.

Make sure the monitor WiFi is on and on that screen to start with. Nothing will show right away but it needs to be on so you can see it later on

Go the connection menu on the C50

Select New Conn. Settings (Wizard)

XC Protocol -> Select OK on next screen

Select Create New Comm. Setting on next screen

Choose Wi-Fi

It will Say Task in Progress Please Wait

Choose Camera Access Point Mode in next screen

Easy Connection on next Screen

It should show a SSID and Password. I recommend taking a picture with your phone/write it down

Click Ok on that screen now

Select Create New Func. Setting on next screen

You Should have the same screen at step 10

This is where you should NOW see your Canon connection in your Portkeys Monitor Wifi Screen

Select that device on your Portkeys Screen

Input the Password that your wrote down/took picture of or from the back of the C50 screen

Select OK on your MONITOR

Now on the back of the C50 the screen should have switched to a new screen

Choose No Auth. (general user) on this screen. I could not get the others to work. /shrug

Click Ok on next screen

Choose SET1 on next screen

Click Ok on next screen

You should now see your Portkeys monitor is connected to your C50

Now on your main Portkeys screen, you see and be able to change WB/Shutter Angle/ISO/Focus and Trigger Record.

Hope this helps.
