I've been using this Canon 709 LUT now since it came out, over Canon's original LUTS, on my Canon C700 Full Frame. Even more WYSIWYG, once you have your exposures dial in. Just right amount of contrast and great blacks from either CLOG2 or CLOG3, Cinema Gamut, files.

Previously unavailable, as far as I can tell, Canon 3D LUT for Canon 709 for both C-Log 2 and 3 is now finally available at https://hk.canon/en/support/0200747702

I am personally very excited as this LUT gives a fairly punchy, colorful look that I couldn't get, without sacrificing my log footage (my R5II can shot in Canon 709, but then it doesn't save "unadulterated" log footage), or tweaking my footage in post.

Very cool, thank you

Trying to figure out what's new here... Canon have had Log2 and Log3 to BT709 LUTs in their standard LUT pack for years, but those were to BT709 Wide DR. Looks like the new LUTs are to plain BT709. Not sure what the difference really is, but they are different.

BTW by "standard LUT pack" I mean "Canon lookup table Version 201911", which you can get from their support site.

"Canon Wide DR" and "Canon 709" are similar but slightly different looks. "Canon 709" is very slightly more contrasty – has whiter whites and blacker blacks, if you will, while the mids/majority of the image is very similar, if not identical, to Wide DR.

Also, AFAIU and I'm a layman, these are not strictly "specification Rec. 709" in terms of transfer function/gamma. Rec. 709, which is available on the Canon R5 II has much, much less dynamic range, but I presume it's included if someone needs it, possibly for broadcast purposes.

There is a technical White Paper on this Canon 709 & CMT 709 LUTS:

https://www.usa.canon.com/content/dam/canon-assets/white-papers/pro/Canon-709-CMT-709-WP.pdf

From my tests this latest Canon 709 LUT look more accurate to what I'm testing on, contrast wise but it's also making charges to the mid and shadow areas.

Interesting stuff.

Regards, Charles
