I was able to finally get the documentation however it took a bit of needling. The secondary email is customer@cist.canon.com. Hardware is already being removed and moved into an off domain office area.

I'm looking to obtain a letter of volatility for the VB-H45 camera. I have cameras that are in a secure closed area and I need to provide a letter of volatility to the gov before I can remove the items. Not finding anything useful on the website.

Thanks.

You won't. You can try to call Canon, but I doubt that you will get one. You will have to keep them in the secret area.

Volatility? Of a camera? I would guess that any statement of volatility of a piece of hardware would simply say "This product is non-volatile." Cameras don't emit anything into the air.

Talked with support and they forwarded me to another group within Canon. Doesn't sound like this will be a hard thing to accomplish on either front.

It's an issue of data storage. No one in the GOV sector will go for that. They can barely do their jobs as is, no way they shoot from the hip. Better to get everything addressed upfront.

A letter of volatility states how and what is retained in a piece of equipment's memory when it is turned off. In this case, it is probably just the current settings information and the date and time. In addition the letter might tell you how to sanitize the instrument to reset it to default settings and clear any state info.

These are required when you take equipment into a SCIF, VTR or other secure area. I used to deal with it all the time. Often it was easier to just keep the equipment in the area.
