Greetings,

First step. Please reset the camera's setting to defaults, Remove the battery. Turn the power switch on. Count to 10. Turn it off. Reconnect the battery and power on the camera again. Does the noise still occur?

I couldn't get a sense from the video where the sound "internally" was coming from.

Should an XA70 tick and click like this when being switched on?

Hello everyone,

I received an XA70 today. So far I have only charged it and made myself familiar with the menus.

The camera emits various ticking and clicking sounds when it's being switched on, as the video hopefully shows. There's less such noise when it's turning off. The noises are present every time it's switched on. Somewhat strangely I don't believe it emitted these sounds the first several times I used it.

I probably sound like a worried mouse here, but I thought I should ask and would much appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance
Philip

Thank you very much for replying, Rick. I followed your instructions and yes, the noise is exactly as before.

It evidently has to do with the lens. When the camera powers, on the aperture blades close and open a few times after which the lens groups are pushed to the front. There is then some further movement in the aperture area, possibly the IS activating (that part is slightly blurry in the video below because my phone's focus didn't readjust quickly enough). When the camera powers down the lens groups are retracted.

I hope this has not been a wild goose chase, in which case I apologise. I suppose this is normal behaviour, but I don't recall it emitting these noises initially. In that case I can only blame lack of sleep for my poor attention...

Cheers
Philip

Greetings,

My gut feeling initially was actually in regards to either the lens or ND filters. I read a little more and noted that IS might also be involved.

For my own knowledge, how were you able to determine the sounds were normal?

Hell0 Rick

To be honest I actually haven't determined that the sounds actually are normal. I don't recall having heard them the first times I used the camera yesterday.

It would be interesting to know if other users of this camera experience this too, including those who have the XA50/55 and XA75 which are similar enough.

I am beginning to wonder if I received a lemon because I just now discovered the the battery had gone flat. I didn't turn the camera off some 2-3 hours ago, meaning it stood in Camera mode. It surprises me that the camera would drain the battery when left like that.

Hello, I know this topic is a year old now but I was wondering if you found out what the issue was or if it was a normal occurrence? As I am currently having the same problem with my XA70. Kind regards 🙂

Hello

I was in touch with Canon Customer Service who confirmed that this is normal and expected behaviour. So nothing to worry about. Enjoy the camera.

Cheers

Philip
