Canon XF400 with a non powered mic in the 3.5mm MIC Input?

I have an XF400 camcorder and I want to know if I can use a non-powered shotgun microphone in the 3.5mm MIC terminal input. I am using the XLR inputs for wireless mics and I want better audio on channels 3 & 4 than the internal microphone.

Hello natconcanon,

You can use a non-powered shotgun mic in the Mic jack of the camcorder. You would want to set the camcorder to Mic+48 to provide phantom power to the unit. Plug the mic in before powering on the camera. You do not want to connect it while the camera is on as this may cause damage.
